London Psychologist

For many people, the concept of undergoing therapeutic treatment is often one that they look beyond. They see it as something to deal with when they have an actual problem to contend with. For that reason, lots of patients who do need help only do something about it when the problem reaches a significant level. However, while it might seem relevant to only start therapy when you have a problem, it can be beneficial to go into therapy when things are going well, instead!

Indeed, some are put off by the concept of undergoing therapy as it still carries a negative stigma. The benefits of therapy, though, are far more than simply solving a problem that you have today. In fact, it’s easier to see therapy as a means of gaining more knowledge and better control over your life. It’s about making sure that you can build and develop a better resistance to dealing with distressing moments. Small problems can soon railroad into being a massive problem in a sort space of time. The sooner you reach out for help, the sooner you can get over the problem.

Don’t just wait until the issue that you face hits critical mass; do something about it now, and you can avoid this kind of negativity moving forward. Looking for Counselling London ?

Finding Solutions to Common Problems

While undergoing therapy without an actual ‘major issue’ to contend with might seem odd, it makes a lot of sense. It may seem more pertinent to just reach out to a friend or family member, as the problem is not that severe. Often, though, this does not lead to you getting the support and treatment that you require.

Your friends will always offer you a more biased view of the situation, tailored to make you feel better. It’s what the people we love and care about do; they look out for us and make sure that we are feeling OK about the problems we face. And that’s a great thing to go through. However, you need to factor in that for the most part there is a bit of an issue in getting the answers you need from people who know you. a professional can remove judgement and bias, and give you a more reasoned and open-minded view of the problem.

The other common issue that people face when going to see a London psychologist, though, stems from perception. They worry that people might think less of them, that they have ‘issues’ or something similar. However, once people see the unique and beneficial effects of said therapy, you’ll begin to feel like a better, happier and more rounded person generally.

Another common affliction from entering into therapy might be that you are scared of the reaction from those you love. That they will worry that you have something seriously wrong. It’s easy to create hyperbole when you tell people you are going to see a therapist. People immediately start to worry about you, or judge your ability to get things done. If you really feel uneasy telling certain people, then simply say that you are off to a meeting. It’s true, technically, and it removes any need to feel uncertain or uneasy about going to therapy.

However, you also need to realize that finding solutions to your own problems should ALWAYS come first. There is absolutely no reason whatsoever why you should allow your own mental health to fail through the judgement of others. They are not you. Everything that you fear about what others will think is, ironically, usually a creation in their own minds. That since you are in therapy and they thought you were OK, that they must be a candidate for therapy, too!

They worry that you will change irrevocably from the therapy, as if you are undergoing some great personality transport. It’s nothing like this, however, and it’s important that you don’t let outside opinion influence the kind of work that you do.

If you allow people to dominate your mind and your ability to seek help, then you will never truly get healthier or happier. You need to be ready to simply look at changing for yourself and to suit the issues that you face.

What If I Change? Will People Know Me Still?

This is a common fear in therapy; that you will come out the other side a new person. Please note that therapy is here to help; it’s not indoctrination. It’s not about taking over your mind and making you a different individual altogether. Instead, it’s about making sure that you can overcome the mental challenges that you face, and making sure you can build on strengths whilst minimizing weaknesses.

Yes, you fear that you might change too much – that it makes you realize things that you wish you didn’t. That you actually hate the ‘great career opportunity’ you have. That the person you thought was so right for you is actually a cause of self-destruction. Ironically, people fear opening the door into their own true thoughts, thanks to the fear that they might not be able to close the door on what they unleash.

Therapy, though, never creates problems that did not already exist. If you go to see a therapist, you will soon enjoy a sense of engaging discussion together that allows you to work together and to get a better grasp and control on your mind. Some feel that it makes problems form that were not present beforehand that is never the case. You might even find that, through therapy, the major obstacles you felt existed aren’t even true!

The aim of therapy is simply to help you open your eyes and find something that was a cause of suffering. If it’s found in therapy, it existed beforehand. You cannot develop a new problem, only chisel the mine of memories away and look deeper into who you truly are.

That’s an immensely beneficial solution, and ne that you should almost certainly grasp with both hands rather than hide from.

Will Therapy Make Me Happy?

Nobody can say with any certainty what will or will not make you happy. It’s not the ultimate goal of aiming for therapeutic care, anyway. When you come to see a London psychologist, you are looking to get help with changing something in your life. It’s not about removing all sadness, guilt, stress, anger or hurt from your life. That is not possible. It’s not something that you could do, really; and besides, those emotions are vital parts of the change and development that you need to undergo. They are the signals that we need to use to help make you a happier, more productive person.

That’s why therapy is so powerful. It’s there to help you not escape your demons, but learn to both accept their existence and cope with their development. You’ll be far more attuned to the problems that you face, and you will find it much easier to make sensible choices that make sense on a personal level.

The end result? A lasting sense of emotional comfort and freedom. You will, though, need to be aware that therapy can last for some time. There is no set period, and it’s not like going to get your car fixed; there is not a set route that you take from A to B.

It’s all about taking the time to work alongside your therapist, plan out a long-term strategy to make you happier and work towards acceptance of your major flaws. It’s a fun thing to do, and it should give you all the help that you need to really hone into the major things in life that are holding you back. This will eventually help you to see these problems first-hand, and then work towards overcoming them without feeling like you need a personality transplant!
